Examining Energy Consumption and Carbon Emissions of Microbial Induced Carbonate Precipitation Using the Life Cycle Assessment Method

چکیده
Microbial induced carbonate precipitation (MICP) is a new geotechnical engineering technology used to strengthen soils and other materials. Although it considered be environmentally friendly, there lack of quantitative data objective evaluation support conclusions about its environmental impact. In this paper, the energy consumption carbon emissions MICP are quantitatively analyzed by using life cycle assessment (LCA) method. The effects evaluated from perspectives resource results show that for each tonne calcium produced technology, 1.8 t standard coal consumed 3.4 CO2 produced, among which 80.4% 96% come raw Comparing with cement, lime, sintered brick, current application process consumes less non-renewable resources but has greater major impact production smoke ash, secondary impacts being global warming, photochemical ozone creation, acidification, eutrophication. five potential scenarios MICP, including concrete, lime mortar, mine cemented backfill, foundation reinforcement, 3 7 times than traditional technologies. 15 23 times. Based on characteristics at condition, suggestions given future research MICP.

data envelopment analysis (dea) is a powerful tool for measuring relative efficiency of organizational units referred to as decision making units (dmus). in most cases dmus have network structures with internal linking activities. traditional dea models, however, consider dmus as black boxes with no regard to their linking activities and therefore do not provide decision makers with the reasons...
Using Life-cycle Assessment for Sustainable Consumption
The 2002 World Summit for Sustainable Development in Johannesburg called for a comprehensive set of programs focusing on sustainable consumption and production. According to world leaders, these programs should rely on life cycle analysis (LCA) to promote sustainable patterns of production and consumption. Cleaner production is a wellestablished activity and it uses LCA. UNEP, the European Unio...

Comparison of life cycle emissions and energy consumption for environmentally adapted metalworking fluid systems.
A number of environmentally adapted lubricants have been proposed in response to the environmental and health impacts of metalworking fluids (MWFs). The alternatives typically substitute petroleum with vegetable-based components and/or deliver minimum quantities of lubricant in gas rather than water, with the former strategy being more prevalent than the latter. A comparative life cycle assessm...

Desertification has become one of the main problems of human societies living in the vicinity of desert areas in recent years. One of the methods that have been considered in recent years and are rapidly expanding in the field of soil mechanics is the Microbial Induced Carbonate Precipitation (MICP). In this method, urea-positive organisms that are naturally present in the soil can stabilize th...
